Liam Talbot

Chartered Marine Engineer | Digital Engineer

Merging my extensive engineering background with my growing expertise in software development and solutions architecture.

After a decade as a Marine Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy, I started an Equipment Support role where I managed £multi-million support contracts and oversaw every diesel engine across the fleet. During this time, the Navy introduced Palantir Foundry, a platform I embraced through developer training. I used it to build data pipelines that ingested engine data, developing applications to streamline maintenance schedules and improve operational efficiency.

My interest in coding grew as I began writing TypeScript functions to enhance Palantir Foundry's capabilities, unlocking new features and improving its overall functionality. This ignited my passion for software development. To deepen my knowledge, I completed Harvard University's Introduction to Computer Science CS50x and Introduction to Python CS50p courses, and further expanded my expertise into web development and software architecture.

I continue to refine my technical expertise while working on personal projects and supporting others in their development. Currently, my focus lies in leveraging Microsoft Azure Machine Learning to build predictive models for detecting engine faults using condition-based monitoring data.

ExpensifyMe | A Lightweight AI Receipt Reader

a Full Stack web application using the Flask microframework with a front-end in HTML, CSS, and a back-end in Python and SQL. The app integrates with Microsoft Azure’s AI services, which allows the user to upload a photo of a receipt and uses AI Form Recognizer to read and return its Key:Value pairs. The user can then download the .csv file to use in their expenses system.
